There is not always accommodation available in the smaller villages where the walking stages end (particularly during the first week in the Basque Country). And if there is accommodation, there are not always sufficient rooms to cater for a group of 20 pilgrims (e.g. some are modest rural inns with 5 rooms only). On these days, the group will be transferred at the end of the day’s walk by coach to another nearby village or town to be lodged, and then transferred back the next day.
